Remembering Umberto Eco (1932-2016), Optimus magister! With gratitude.

In Memoria di Umberto Eco (1932-2916), Optimus magister! Con gratitudine.

When the pupil quotes his teacher it’s a sign of authority, when the teacher mentions his pupil a sign of generosity!
Antonino Mazza

Often the pain of living *

Often the pain of living have I met:

it was the chocked stream that gurgles,

it was the curling up of the parched

leaf, it was the horse fallen off its feet.

Well-being I have not known, save the prodigy

that reveals divine Indifference:

it was the statue in the midday

somnolence, and the cloud, and the falcon high lifted.

“Standing in a half circle, next to total strangers, next to Phil Minton, with our mouths wide open, suddenly singing at the very top of our lungs, I heard a harmony, as if all human language had been banished for a moment from the entire earth, and it felt divine!” Antonino Mazza, Poet and Ottawa’s Feral Choir Performer
